Art Supplies

My dear artsy friend Karen told me that Barnes & Noble was carrying Coccoina Glue Sticks from Italy.
Apparently they are all the rage and I keep seeing them cropping up on lots of mixed media artists blogs and online sellers.
I figured I too would check them out.
They smell yummier than I even imagined...they are almond scented. I adore all things almond, amaretto and marzipan. I have no idea how they stick this to that...I am surely gonna check that out this week.
Just thought I would share for those that are already hooked on them. $6.95 for 2 glue sticks is not really a bargain. But they are made in Italy and they smell yummy. That's the hitch.

Stamp Francisco Giveaway

The lovely and talented Audrey is an artsy buddy of mine. She just made some great new art for Stamp Francisco demonstrating how you can use the very same rubber stamp "log baby stamp" in lots of different applications for different seasons and ideas. Sort of similiar to the idea of "with one stamp" that Stampington does in Somerset Studio. My personal favorite is the 4th of July one!

Check out Audrey's post here. ~--->

http://smallcreations.blogspot.com/2009/02/stamp-francisco-their-giveaway.html

The company that sells the stamp she utilized is called Stamp Francisco. They just started a new blog called Les Papotages de Stamp Francisco. They are having a great giveaway with all the goodies you see here.

Go check out their new blog and see their products here.

They sell lots of great stamps and goodies!

*Even though personally I do try to keep my favorite local store in business, too. I feel lucky to have such a store "in my backyard", so to speak. But if you don't have a local store to shop at, this is a great resource.

Happy Anniversary to me

I know I don't post an awful lot of personal stuff on my little art blog.
So this is a pretty enormous occasion in my life and worth mentioning...

11 years ago today I met my soulmate, Roger ...and 10 years ago today we were married on a beach at sunset. I feel like I have known him forever and yet it took an awful long time (over 30 years) to find him! The really good ones are harder to find and are well worth it...I must say. Some mutual friends named Greg and Charlotte introduced us and the four of us went to Los Dos Molinos in Phoenix for dinner that night.

I would have never guessed that night when I left the house that I was meeting my future husband.

We met on February 19 and the rest was history.

Valentine Swap from Lisa

My friend Lisa, sent my Valentine's Swap goodies in the mail over the weekend. Lisa paints magical trees! So incredibly talented and a friend to boot. How did I get so lucky?

The story of just how me met last year, and our little swap last Halloween is listed here: http://alteredartists.blogspot.com/2008/09/sweet-and-sinister-swap-from-lisa.html

I can't believe she included Somerset Magazine's "Somerset In Love" ...I absolutely really wanted that. How in the world did she know that I did not already have it and was secretly coveting it? My favorite piece is still the tree though. She is wildly talented! Lisa can be found most days here:

Fun huh?

Happy Blogiversary to me

I started blogging 4 years ago today with my artsy dear friend Stephanie. At the time we thought we would never have enough to blog about, or do it often enough. How times have changed....

Now we split up our blogs into two. I stayed here and Steph is at http://creativecoup.typepad.com

To mark this anniversary, I have been messing with my background to give it a fresh new look. What do you think? What colors do you like?

I am going to do a giveaway, I just have not thought ahead enough to figure out what. Check back tomorrow...

25 things

Facebook is all a twitter about these viral "25 things". Since I did type up the whole thing and facebook timed out, kicked me off, and lost 1 hour of my life...I am posting it on my blog. Here at http://www.alteredartists.blogspot.com/ cause it is easier...

I also saw the "seesters" aka Linda and Karen post on it, and I laughed reading it. You can go see it here:

http://visualchronicles.typepad.com/visual_chronicles/2009/02/not-ignoring-a-sign-25-things.html

Love them....

and here is my 25...

1) I am an artist
2) I am actually happily married and will celebrate 10 years of wedded bliss this month. Roger and I got married on the exact day we met one year later...so our anniversary is a real anniversary!
3) I was born and raised in Wisconsin and... I do not miss the winters at all
4) I love eating dinner outside on a patio, whether at a restaurant or my own home
5) I love to type and write with ellipses... in case you have not noticed...!
6) I used to dress mannequins and create window displays for a Department Store for 15 years.
7) During above period of my life, I met Anna Nicole Smith when she was the Guess Jeans Spokesmodel for an autograph signing press event. She signed a poster for me and spelled her own name wrong on it. She re-did the spelling, drew an arrow, a smiley face, and wrote oops and stay sweet! She giggled that she spelled her own name wrong and I was being so nice about it. Tragic.
8) The night I graduated from school in Milwaukee with my Associates Degree, I danced with one of the lead singers from Air Supply. They were in town for a concert and staying at the Pfister Hotel where we were at a nightclub. (It was the 80's, after all)
9) I am a foodie. My favorite meals could include Lobster Risotto, Steak, Chicken Caesar Salad, Wine, Crème Brulee, Tiramisu, Shallots or Tarragon, and any kind of unbelievable flaky pastry.
10) I am terrified by fake bacon bits on a salad.
11) I am a huge list maker. I live by my the yellow legal pad.
12) I am in a monthly book club, movie club, game group, and an art group... and feel generally pretty content that I actually have too many hobbies. Better that; than not enough.
13) I never had a dog growing up, but have found that I am 100% a dog person, I love my West Highland Terrier, Pumpkin.
14) I try to practice random acts of kindness everyday. Whether you let someone in your lane in traffic, ahead of you at the grocery store, a personal handmade card to thank someone, or a compliment.
15) Yikes this is getting hard to come up with 25 things!
16) I lost 40 pounds and have kept it off for over 14 months now. My new motto is that keeping it off is “all about making choices”
17) My favorite movie of all time is "Princess Bride" and I can quote most of it.
18) My favorite movie this past year was "Slumdog Millionaire" and I think everyone should see it.
19) I love Hawaii, my favorite Hawaiian island is Maui which is where I got married.
20) I think the Facebook Applications are frustrating. This blog on blogspot is easier to manage.
21) I think technology is only great when it works. See above.
22) Both of my brothers work with computers. One has his own business that fixes them and the other is a software engineer/developer. I just try to keep up. Plus my husband is our IT Department.
23) I am really close with my Mom and feel blessed she lives here across town.
24) My favorite book I have ever read was "The Color of Water" by James McBride. If you need a little perspective in your life...you need to read it. Actually every one should.
25) My dearest friend called me one day in the middle of a messy painful divorce, and said she needed me. 48 hours later I arrived on her doorstep (cross country). I would do it again, too

Happy Groundhog's Day

I think of Caddyshack and the gopher for some reason when I think of groundhog's day.

I am guessing they are similiar, although I am sure someone will email me to tell of the difference.

Here are some real groundhogs.

The idea of more weeks of winter is fine with me. In Sunny Arizona that just means a few more days of 75 degree perfection. Can't complain. Although the people in the frozen tundra may have a bone to pick with me....

I was in the mood for a little humor.....

and I am still a little sad that my local NFL team lost the Super Bowl yesterday. I think they had an amazing season and should still be proud of the achievement.
