Pumpkin Carving

Here is this year's Pumpkin Carving that greeted our trick-or-treaters. I really love love love to carve Halloween Pumpkins. This year's rendition is "IGOR" from Young Frankenstein. The actor who played him was the very funny Marty Feldman. I loved the movie. Young Frankenstein is a Musical on Broadway, so if the reference is a little old that might ring a bell too.

About 10 years ago I discovered the "stencils" available everywhere.

This is my trusty set of tools. I bought a "Pumpkin Masters" mini reciprocating saw that really rocks!! I bought it after H-ween last year, so this was my first opportunity to use it. It is on the right of the set of tools.

Most of the rest was a set available from Williams Sonoma purchased eons ago. I love my 2 Speedball Linoleum Cutters, and I use those too. I saw on the internet this year an extra nifty trick that I want to share. Instead of the flashing strobe lights that you can buy commercially or candles (which can be dangerous as well) go to the Dollar Store and buy one of those round push-on battery operated lights. The light is nice and bright, it's a $1, and looks great. Works especially well for the artificial/fake Pumpkins so many people have carved too!
If you want to be amazed by some really great pumpkins go visit Martha here

Wow, some are pretty amazing. Look for the Pumpkins by an artist named Tomas Gonzales. He makes mine over the years look not so good.

Happy Halloween everyone. Our doggie named Pumpkin, loved the evening like she always does. She gets a big kick out of the doorbell ringing all night. There was a kid dressed up as Broccoli and called himself Broccoli Spears.

Who doesn't love Chocolate???

The pictures sort of speak for themselves. I was in Las Vegas last month on business with the hubs. I went to the Bellagio to see the fabulouso Floral Conservatory (there were pictures here on this blog posted last month about the Pumpkins!)

Right around the corner behind the Botanical Garden/Conservatory....I saw this amazing Chocolate Fountain....

and of course there was a few pastries too....
Unbelievably, I did not eat one single solitary bite, just took these amazing photos. I am posting here because "yes, indeed this week is Halloween, and there is lots of chocolate and decadence available everywhere." So up for discussion today...
What is your favorite chocolate?
Personally, I am leaning more towards dark chocolate than I used to. (Probably Stephanie's influence, and my Mom) I really like Guittard. Anything Amaretto-Almond-Marzipan flavored or filled, and sorry Mr. Hershey, but those kisses aren't quite what they used to be. Athough, I am liking the new melty textured " Hershey's Bliss" ones.
Stephanie shared a bite of brownie today at lunch. It was pretty good. Definitely worth splurging over a bite. I even went to lunch today with Maija (http://www.maigirlz.typepad.com/) and Stephanie. How lucky am I?
Choose your chocolate wisely.....

Back in action!

EEK! Reloading all your files is frightful, even if it isn't close to Halloween!
The little tag garland was a quick and fun giftie for a friend Jane, she works nearly non-stop hosting great swaps for Frenzy Stamper. She comes up with great guidelines and sends gentle reminders! Jane, you're awesome!

Drumroll please........................ My Sweet and Sinister goods arrived and I am totally thrilled! Vickie put together a great swap box and when I opened it it was hard to tell who was more excited me or the winks. One had to do a poison test on the gumballs right away! The other had to start placing the jars of Spider silk and Lizards Legs among our Magic Potion jars, a great addition to our collection. Vickie made a terrific clock that has a fun poem that reads;

This clock
will soon strike
midnight,
An old witch
her broom shall ride,
to stir up
lots of mischief,
so you better stay
inside!!!

Serioulsy, that could be a new mantra for me. giggle My favorite piece is a glorious witch's hat.
It will be hard to put it away when the season ends, but knowing I will be able to pull it out early next year makes me smile. I will take some more pictures and post them soon, she sent me so many things I need to take an inventory and document it all in a book of sinister spells!
Thank you Vickie! She actually has great photos and tutorials for many of her projects at www.victoriasvignettes.blogspot.com

Say Hello to my little friend...

I have not decided what to name her yet. Any suggestions? I have been trying to think of a pun with a nod to the bite out of the apple, I think I am too tired to be really witty. My laptop bit the dust and I am still mourning the possibility of not being able to save all my old data and photos. blech.
I will transfer all my hope and joy to this new baby, it's only been out of the box for a few hours and already we are building a great relationship. I can't wait to get to know her better, thanks to the awesome support available we will be BFFs in no time.

Random Acts of Kindness

I recieved this awesome necklace in the mail from the ultra talented Izabella Pierce as a random act of kindness.

Izabella can be found here : http://izabella.typepad.com/

I was SO surprised to receive this custom made chandelier prism necklace featuring my favorite muse by Piero Fornasetti. I am thankful for Bella's generosity and her friendship.

I try to live my life every single day by donating random acts of kindness out into the world and "paying it forward" to my friends, my family and to total strangers. I hope this message inspires you to do the same. Bella has her own story about it on her blog, as well.

The beautiful irony is that after sending out countless packages & cards, what you give...you will receive back as well. Our world could always use some happy thoughts and some generosity in it.

The Gifts keep Coming!

I am so excited that I WON something on a blog! I won a book a month or so ago, and now this too! I joined this fun swap that we have been yabbering on and on about this month. Now, I won an altered clipboard by the seriously fabulous Melissa Lobdell.

It will look something like this one that was posted on the Sweet and Sinister Swap Blog.

You can find the terrific Melissa here at her blog:

http://www.littlemelfie.blogspot.com/

Then of course, if Halloween gifts could not get any better!!!!......

I saw my dear friend, Karen Elkins today and she presented my with a Halloween ATC that she custom made just for me and a whole slew of other Halloweenie Goodies!

It is too cute for words and it means the world to me that she customized it with my favorite 4 legged child, Pumpkin and made it specially for me. We call Pumpkin... the West Highland Terrier-izer. She is really the cutest doggie ever. She just loves Halloween at our house, I think it might be her favorite day of the year. You see on Halloween is when the doorbell rings all night and all the cute children pet her and tell her just how cute she is, with a name like Pumpkin (how can you go wrong?).

So since Stephanie posted a cute pic of her doggie, Tova (you can see her if you scrowl down to "Craftermath") here she is:

I was holding a treat in my hand to get her to pose for the picture. Can you tell??

Here is another adorable picture of my darling furkid. I love to carve Halloween Pumpkins (but not this one!) OOOH I think this was kinda sinister to say, huh????

Here is the AMAZING ATC Karen made for me. How cool is that?

Happy Halloweenie to all !!!!!!

Treats for me too

Well before I sent the stuff off to Steph that you see below in her post, she sent me this sweet wall hanging on the cute vintage hanger.

It had a cute orange ribbon on it. I took creative license by taking it off , and VOILA! instant art ready to hang in the spare bedroom, which it matches by the way. So now I will enjoy it for many moons to come. (It was terribly cute with the ribbon tho...)

Then I get another artsy box from my new dear friend in Chicago. My sweet and sinister partner, Lisa. Apparently she felt the need to send me more Halloween goodies, which was completely unnecessary of course. But, oh how I love and appreciate it...and her!

Guess what I will be making this weekend??

A Haunted House.....I SEE the possibilities!

I was inspired by the article in the new issue of Somerset Studio and the Haunted House that Michelle Ward had done. Pick up the Sept/Oct Issue of Somerset Studio if you have not done so already!

I am thinking the windows need mica maybe and the roofline needs german scrap trim....oooh I need to start that project now!!!

Some other goodies....

this is very cute! Do you like the hanger Lisa? More creative license I took :)

and it has a back side for after the holidays with a too sweet and very dear message....

I am glad there were not tricks in there......only treats!!!

I consider myself very lucky.
