I just love Howard Jones. (yah, you remember him from the 80's) He is performing tonight in Scottsdale. My favorite song is No One Is To Blame. I think the lyrics are very inspiring. Hope you enjoy them too.... ~Dawn
NO ONE IS TO BLAME
From the Howard Jones album Dream Into Action
You can look at the menu but you just can't eat
You can feel the cushions but you can't have a seat
You can dip your foot in the pool but you can't have a swim
You can feel the punishment but you can't commit the sin
And you want her and she wants you
We want everyoneAnd you want her and she wants you
No one, no one, no one ever is to blame
You can build a mansion but you just can't live in it
You're the fastest runner but you're not allowed to win
Some break the rulesAnd live to count the cost
The insecurity is the thing that won't get lost
And you want her and she wants you
We want everyoneAnd you want her and she wants you
No one, no one, no one ever is to blame
You can see the summit but you can't reach it
It's the last piece of the puzzle but you just can't make it fit
Doctor says you're cured but you still feel the pain
Aspirations in the clouds but your hopes go down the drain
And you want her and she wants you
We want everyoneAnd you want her and she wants you
No one, no one, no one ever is to blame
No one ever is to blameNo one ever is to blame
Here is a link to you tube to see him sing it too...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YlfDdqlt1c8&mode=related&search=

Postcards from the edge

It occurs to me that there is something wrong with the digital camera or it's operator. When uploading it says we have corrupted files, who knew. Time for a new card perhaps. It is possible that the blurry photos enhance the cards in such a way as to lend mystery. I am happy to have them on their way to Texas. I love to do swaps, sometimes it helps you learn about what your personal style is and what it is not. ~S

New Stuff
So here is some of my
new stuff. The container is for a challenge at Ink It! www.inkitinc.com
there is a better picture of it there,(under images) funny, you'd think this would be a great photo considering it was taken at an intersection. :) The painting to the right I made for a sister, I used gesso to prime and stamp into to create the texture. I used an iron on for the center design which I then painted over. Curious that they don't make iron-ons to work well on stretched canvas with acrylic paint. As usual the Lumiere paint doesn't photograph well and the embellishments don't have that real life pop. The colors match her bedroom. Here is my question of the day. Do you ever feel uncomfortable giving away your work? Do you get the willies hoping that they will "get" it? I love to share art with my arty crew, I don't feel like I have to explain why, but, with the non-arty~ oh dear I think sometimes I'd rather go to the dentist. I'm not saying they couldn't "understand" but you know how sometimes you get that blank stare when you've handed off something that really delighted you to make. I showed my little painting to my sisters, luckily the one it was for loved it and blushed. The others gave me the dreaded look.~SW

Fat Book 4X4 Art

This is my page I am working on for a Fat Book Swap right now. I don't know who came up with the funny name....it is merely a piece of collaged art that is 4"X4", with some embellishments, that has a clean left edge that can be punched and wire bound together. The cool part is that you make as many pages as there are people in the group. So in this particular swap I need to make 40 pages. In a few weeks I will get 40 different cool mixed media art pages to be bound together in a book! Lots of work, but think of all the cool art you get in return. I think it is better to do all originals rather than color photo copies (as some artists do)
This is a "DREAM" theme, one of my favorite clip art images, with the Nashua Metal Tape I am addicted to!!!! I put it on everything these days, and the fabulous Liquid watercolored Dyed Fusion Paper I made myself (from book instruction of talented Traci Bautista! buy "Collage Unleashed" now!)
I couldn't fit my dream quote adequately on the front so it's on the back. Here it is:
"Dreams are the illustrations from the
book your soul is writing about you."
Cool huh??? I say do something artistic every day and make the world a better place...

This is my artwork created at Phoenix's Art Unraveled Art Retreat. I took a class with the fabulously talented Lynne Perrella. The class was inspiring. Her books are well recommended. Especially "Alphabetica" Mixed Media Exploration is so much fun.
Off to create some more...
